Two paths to the Team.

(Non- Certified) Civilian to Patrolman

Non-Certified Applicants must take a civil Service exam which is given twice a year (April and October), or as otherwise determined by civil service. please see the below heading to see when the next test will be.

  1. Fill out the below application and return it with the required materials
  2. Pass a background check
  3. Pass the Civil Service written exam
  4. Pass a Physical Fitness test consisting of the following
    1. 1.5 mile run
    2. push-ups
    3. sit-ups
    4. 400 meter sprint
  5. Pass an oral interview with a board of administration and supervisors
  1. Must be 21 years of age or older
  2. Able to pass a background check
  3. Must be physically fit
  4. Able to pass a psychological evaluation
  5. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts
  6. Posses a High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  7. Posses a DD214 Honorable Discharge (Military only)
  1. Starting pay ranges from $49,070.11-$53,995.54 annually depending on education level.
  2. 160 hours of paid sick leave a year
  3. 120 hours of paid  vacation
  4. Unused vacation and sick hour rollover. Sick time caps out at 720 hours, and vacation does not cap out.
  5. Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  6. Opportunities of large departments in a small town environment
  7. Supportive Administration
  8. Monthly in-house training
  9. Opportunities for off-site training in your choice of specialization.

All Officers are able to apply for the following positions after their probation period is up, and slots are available

  1. One of only six bomb squads in the state
  2. Active SWAT Team
  3. Police Canine program
  4. Criminal investigations
  5. Narcotic investigations
  6. Several federal taskforce positions
  7. School Resource Officer positions
  8. Crisis Negotiations

 (Certified Officers) Department to Department Transfer  

  1. Fill out the below Application and turn in required materials
  2. Pass a background check
  3. Pass a work history check with pervious departments
  4. Pass an oral interview with a board of administrators and supervisors.
  1. Must be a certified Law Enforcement Officer (in any State)
  2. Able to pass a background check
  3. Must be physically fit
  4. Able to pass a psychological evaluation
  5. Must be willing to work nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts
  6. Posses a High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
  7. Posses a DD214 Honorable Discharge (Military only)
  1. Starting pay ranges from $49,070.11-$63,041.92 annually depending on experience, education, and certificate level.
  2. 160 hours of paid sick leave a year
  3. 120 hours of paid  vacation
  4. Unused vacation and sick hour rollover. Sick time caps out at 720 hours, and vacation does not cap out.

Once this form is completed and submitted, please bring the originals of the following forms to the El Dorado Police Department. We will make copies and the originals will be returned to you.

  • Birth Certificate or Proof of Citizenship
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) 
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Social Security Card
  • DD-214 (For applicants with Military experience only)

Once the application and forms are completed and turned in, you will receive a study guide that is to be returned on the day of the test.
