Patrol Division

Patrol Division

The Patrol Division is the largest division in our department, comprising approximately two-thirds of our certified officers. While not exclusively so, they are most often the first responders when emergencies arise. Without a doubt, they are the backbone of the department, responding to calls daily—often in an unsung, heroic manner. Last year alone, patrol officers handled over 18,000 calls through dispatch. Their duties include enforcing traffic regulations, investigating accidents, taking initial crime reports, monitoring businesses and properties, serving warrants, and engaging in proactive policing. The latter encompasses a wide range of strategies aimed at crime prevention and community safety. Patrol officers are on duty 24/7, working 12-hour shifts, with a rotation between day and night shifts every two months. Their schedule includes every other weekend off, providing a three-day break. Beyond their primary responsibilities, many patrol officers serve in specialized roles, including K9, SWAT, Bomb Squad, Hostage Negotiation, and Training Instruction. Additionally, we have School Resource Officers assigned to Barton Jr. High and El Dorado High School, ensuring the safety of students and staff. The Patrol Division is a diverse group of dedicated professionals, each bringing unique skills and expertise to their role. Despite their different backgrounds, they share a common mission: “To Protect and Serve” the citizens of El Dorado and those who visit our community.
